Eagle Eats Asian

Mai Thai
Lunch Mon-Fri 11am-2:30, Sat-Sun 12-2:30pm | Dinner Mon-Thurs 5-10pm, Fri-Sat 5-11pm, Sun 5-9:30pm
(208) 938-8424 | 78 Eagle River Rd, Eagle | www.maithaigroup.com

The view down at Mai Thai is extraordinary; it’s colorful and artful.  No, I’m not talking about the back patio, although it’s nice, too; I’m all about the food.  It’s always remarkable when Asian restaurants, especially sushi restaurants, present meals.  It’s like their true calling was to be an amazing artist, but they started working in a restaurant to pay the bills and liked it so much they never left.  In that case the chefs at Mai Thai could be the next Picasso.

The only dilemma when eating at Mai Thai is disturbing this grand display of food; but don’t worry, you’re hungry and that will bring you back to your senses.  Mai Thai serves a variety of Thai noodle and rice dishes, along with an impressive selection of sushi; and, if you are fortunate enough to live within a three mile radius they’ll even deliver it to your door.

Ahi Sushi Bar
Lunch Mon-Thurs 11:30am-2:30pm | Dinner Sun-Thurs 5-9:30pm, Fri-Sat 5-10pm
(208) 938-3474 | 1193 E Winding Creek Dr., Eagle | www.ahisushibar.com

It can be tough being the new kid on the block.  Folks aren’t always sure what to expect and whether you’ll have something they like.  We understand what it’s like; not everyone understands your vision.  But Ahi Sushi Bar has a great selection of fresh rolls, sashimi, and nigiri.  They serve traditional favorites like California rolls and spicy tuna rolls as well as some rare choices like stuffed ahi which is tuna wrapped around a rice ball and topped with spicy scallops.  You won’t be disappointed; these guys have it all.  So go ahead, venture out and try something new, its all good.

Zen Bento
Mon-Fri 11am-8pm, Sat 11am-4pm
342 E State St., Eagle | (208) 938-4277 | www.zenbento.com

Popular with the natives, this peaceful restaurant is a quick and tasty stop for a healthy meal.  Ordering is always easy; just decide whether you want chicken, veggies, tofu, beef, salmon, or ahi on top of all those fresh steamed vegetables, then pick your favorite sauce.  Freshly rolled, non-raw sushi is back after its hiatus, although in short supply.  Be sure to call ahead to make sure they save some for you!

Sakura Sushi

(208) 938-1599 | 3210 E Chinden Blvd., Eagle

The food flies as the hibachi masters with the spatulas get to work creating your dinner.  It’s always a blast to see them get the fire going, tossing shrimp right and left while lighting an onion volcano on fire.  Traditional in nature, Sakura knows how to please the taste buds with sushi favorites, bento boxes, and noodle dishes.  Take your shoes off and enjoy the private dining rooms; they are quiet, relaxing and a great place to sit and enjoy your meal.

China Palace
Mon-Thurs 11:30am-9:30pm, Fri 11:30am-10pm, Sat 12-10pm
(208) 939-8938 | 625 E State, Eagle

I can remember when I was in high school and my friends and I always went to this tasty Chinese place for lunch.  We always had the Mandarin Chicken and Pork Fried Rice, the #10 combo.  It’s amazing that we never got tired of it.

China Palace has a huge selection of Chinese dishes that will satisfy any craving and give you the chance to try all sorts of meals; choices like Szechuan Chicken, Chow Mein, Fried Rice, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and so much more.
